Before coming to Central Presbyterian Church, Pastor Wallace W. Bubar served for 14 years as pastor of congregations in Iowa City, Iowa and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Wallace is a graduate of Baylor University, where he majored in religion and philosophy. He graduated summa cum laude and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School, where he concentrated in American religious history. He spent one year as an exchange student at the Georg-August-Universität in Göttingen, Germany, pursuing theology and church history. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Emory University in Atlanta, where he focused on worship and preaching, and received several awards, including the John W. Rustin Award for Outstanding Preaching.

Wallace enjoys writing, and has had several articles published in journals such as The Christian Century, Biblical Interpretation and Minister, and has contributed several articles to the Feasting on the Word lectionary commentary series and the Feasting on the Gospels commentary, both published by Westminster John Knox Press.

Wallace is married to Gabriele Albrecht, a native of Hildesheim, Germany, who teaches English as a Second Language in the Des Moines Community School District at East High School. Together they are the parents of two girls, Lena and Sophie. They live in the Westwood neighborhood in Des Moines.
